BUNMI KOKO ATTENDS HERTSMERE BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETING BY A SPECIAL INVITATION OF THE MAYOR

Bunmi Olaye and Francis Udom, Creative Director and CEO of Bunmi Koko and fellow Hertsmere residents will be introduced at the full Council meeting, which will be held at the Council Civic Offices in Borehamwood, Herts on Wednesday 13th July.

After Bunmi gave an impressive speech at St. Margaret’s Bushey Prize Giving and Speech Day on Friday 8th June, she has been invited to meet Peter Knell, the Mayor of Hertsmere Council. Other representatives at the meeting will include Hertfordshire Museum Partnership, Hertfordshire Rural Forum and Hertsmere Learning Forum.

Bunmi Koko will be introduced to the Council under the Mayor’s announcements, which will include Bunmi Koko’s main achievements. Amongst the many prestigious awards won, Bunmi was shortlisted for Scottish Fashion Awards ‘Retailer of the Year 2011 and was nominated for ID International Emerging Designer Awards in Dunedin, New Zealand.  In addition, both Bunmi and Francis were personally invited to meet with Nelson Mandela at his home in 2010 and receive his blessings. This led to the collaboration and support of the United Nations World Food Programme.

Afterwards, Bunmi and Francis will stay for refreshments, in order to discuss with the Mayor and Councillors about Bunmi Koko and Hertmere Borough Council working together to create more opportunities for the local people. The brand has a Scottish/Nigerian Heritage that specialises in ready to wear, couture garments for bridal and evening wear and special design.

Francis Udom says: “We are excited to make some new friends and be actively involved and support our local borough Council. We are committed to youth development, special projects and female entrepreneurship.”

Bunmi Koko, having a long list of achievements and ever-growing celebrity following, has upcoming shows at Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week, London and an exhibition in Paris. After this, Bunmi Koko will unveil the long-awaited Spring/Summer 2012 collection at the ARISE Magazine – Colours of Africa Fashion Collective at Lincoln Center in New York City during IMG Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week on the 15th September.
